Variable Intake Universal Parts List

Below is a list of all the parts involved with the swap, what they're for, which setups they go with, etc. To see which setups correspond to each number listed, visit the set-ups page.

2000 Upper Manifold

Desc: This is the essential part that the whole swap revolves around. This is the primary intake manifold that has variable length runners and a solenoid that switches between the two.
Set-ups: all
Where to buy: Your best bet is a junkyard, where (should it be local) you can rip this off the car as well as everything else you might need.

2000 Lower Manifold

Desc: The lower manifold off of the 2000 is different from the 4th gen in that it has the proper bolt holes to bolt the 00 upper to it. The Cali version of the manifold has swirl valves that are removable. Other than the Cali versions and the bolt holes, it is otherwise the same as the 4th gen manifold [must be used with 00 fuel rail and injectors or QX4 alternatives].
Set-ups: 1, 2, 3, 4
Where to buy: Just like the upper manifold, a junkyard is your best bet for this. It's likely easier to buy it along with the upper manifold, if available.

2000 Fuel Rail

Desc: The fuel rail from the 2000 is made to hold the larger injectors [must be used with 00 lower manifold].
Set-ups: 1, 2, 3, 4
Where to buy: Just like the manifolds, a junkyard is your best bet for this. It's likely easier to buy it along with the lower manifold, if available.

2000 Fuel Injectors
Desc: These are the larger injectors used by the DE-K [must be used with 00 fuel rail].
Set-ups: 1, 2, 3, 4
Where to buy: Your best bet for these is to buy them along with the fuel rail, from a junkyard.

2000 Throttlebody

Desc: The throttlebody from the 2000 is essentially the same size, but has the IACV integrated to it (which can be removed and blocked-off, as shown in the above picture).
Set-ups: 1, 2, 5, 7
Where to buy: It is easiest to grab one of these from a junkyard as well, and even easier to grab it along with the manifolds.

2000 Idle Air Control Valve (IACV)

Desc: The IACV from the 2000 is integrated into the 00 throttlebody, but can be removed and a block-off plate installed in it's place. Will work in place of the 4th gen IACV, but has it's quirks.
Set-ups: 1, 5
Where to buy: If you're getting an 00 throttlebody, this will likely be included, but if not, grab one from a junkyard.

2000 EGR Guide Tube

Desc: Inserts into the bottom of the 00 upper manifold rather than there being a port on the manifold like 4th gens. You can opt not to not use it and block-off the hole if you choose to remove your EGR.
Set-ups: all (optional)
Where to buy: This part can be grabbed from a junkyard as well, but can also be ordered from your Nissan dealer brand new for fairly cheap. Be sure to buy the gasket as well.

EGR Block-Off Plate

Desc: Goes in place of the EGR guide tube should you choose to eliminate EGR.
Set-ups: all (optional)
Where to buy: This must be custom made.

2000 Rear Valve Cover

Desc: The 2000 rear cover uses only 1 coil pack boss (tower w/ bolt hole) per coil pack to clear the upper manifold, and has a side-mounted PCV valve port rather than top mounted for ease of removal/install of the PCV. This piece is optional, as you can instead grind down the coil pack bosses on the 4th gen cover and use a different PCV valve.
Set-ups: all
Where to buy: This is easiest to grab from a junkyard.

2000 Rear Coil Packs

Desc: The 2000 rear coil packs use only one bolt each to follow suite with the 00 rear valve cover. They are optional as you can ground down the screw holders and the packs a little bit to clear the upper manifold.
Set-ups: all
Where to buy: These are easiest to grab from a junkyard along with the rear valve cover, but can also be ordered new from a Nissan dealer fairly cheap.

Throttlebody Adapter Plate

Desc: One of these is required to adapt either the Pathfinder or 4th gen throttlebodies to the 00 upper manifold (a different one depending which throttlebody).
Set-ups: 3, 4, 6, 8
Where to buy: These must be custom made, either by yourself or by a member of Maxima.org. .org member Stephen Max is currently the primary manufacturer of these.

IACV Adapter Plate

Desc: One of these is required to adapt the 4th gen IACV for use with the 00 upper manifold.
Set-ups: 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8
Where to buy: These must be custom made, either by yourself or by a member of Maxima.org. .org member Stephen Max is currently the primary manufacturer of these.

Pathfinder Throttlebody

Desc: This is a larger throttlebody from a Pathfinder which can be used with an adapter plate.
Set-ups: 3, 8
Where to buy: These are typically easiest to be yanked from a junkyard.

Fuel Rail Off-Fittings

Desc: These fittings are to be used to adapt the 00 fuel rail to your current 4th gen fuel system.
Set-ups: 1, 2, 3, 4
Where to buy: These can be found on .org member -----'s website.

Replacement Vacuum Nipples

Desc: These larger non-plastic nipples are needed depending which setup you choose. One with an elbow can be used on top of the manifold, for example, for your EVAP. Another non-elbow one could be used off to the side if you're using the 4th gen IACV.
Set-ups: all
Where to buy: These can be found at any hardware store, lowe's, etc.

Bolts

Desc: There is a huge variety of bolts needed to successfully complete the swap. We have here a list thanks to 98SEBlackMax from the .org.
Set-ups: all
Where to buy: These can be found at any hardware store, lowe's, etc.
The list:
-2 of M5 x 0.8 x 16mm - these are the bolts for the VIAS piece on the passenger side.

-4 of M6 x 1.0 x 16mm - These are the bolts for the VIAS piece on the driver's side.

-2 of M6 x 1.0 x 70mm - These bolts are for the EGR up pipe, just drop them in from the VIAS and bolt them up to the "boomerang" piece of the EGR.

-3 of M6 x 1.0 x 100mm - These are the long bolts that hold the 2000 VI upper to the 2000 lower.

-3 of M6 x 1.0 x 130mm - These are the longest bolts and they also hold the 2000 VI to the 2000 lower.

ALL OF THE ABOVE BOLTS SHOULD BE INSTALLED WITH A LOCKING WASHER AND A NORMAL WASHER. They are not flange bolts like the OEM hardware and as such need something to keep them from moving. Also some of these bolts are close to OEM length and the washers make them fit ok.

-2 of M6 x 1.0 Flange nuts - These go on the two threaded inserts of the lower. You can use a normal nut but mine vibrated loose over time. I went out and got some flange nuts from a local hardware store.

-4 of M8 x 1.25 x 60 mm - These bolts are what hold the 2000 TB to the 2000 VI. They can be installed with a locking washer only. Thats how the OEM ones are.

ALSO you can re use the 4th gen lower hardware with the 2000 lower if you did not get that hardware.
